The Red Sox Scholars Program presented by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center honored North End student Ana Heredia as one of this year’s Red Sox Scholars in a special ceremony preceding the Red Sox-Tigers game on Sunday, June 11. Ana is a seventh grader at John Eliot School K-8 where she has maintained a high GPA with science and history being her best classes. With a mindset that knowledge is key, Ana always makes sure to listen and do her best.
 The Red Sox Scholars program promises college scholarships to academically talented Boston students who are selected in 7th grade, providing a $10,000 college scholarship upon enrollment in an accredited college or university and successful completion of the program. It is presented by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), the Official Hospital of the Boston Red Sox – a sponsor of the program since its inception in 2003.
 This year’s class of inductees includes the addition of two new Scholars made possible by a grant from Doris Buffett’s Letters Foundation. The grant funds two “Sunshine Scholars†for the next five years, bringing the total number of new scholarships each year to 12. To date, a total of 274 students have been inducted into the Red Sox Scholars program.
