Nempac Returns to Bijou de la Vida Gallery

The North End Music and Performing Arts Center’s 2016-2017 Concert Series will return to the intimate Bijou de la Vida Gallery in the North End for their final concert of the season, titled Embracing the Ethereal: A Musical Journey of French and Minimalist Works, on Friday, March 24th 2017 at 7:00 p.m.

 The Bijou de la Vida Gallery is a private gallery featuring an extensive collection of contemporary art, an inspiring setting for musical performance in the heart of the North End.

The program will focus on temporal and spatial elements of French and Minimalist music, highlighting themes of Mysticism and the Spiritual elements of music. Consisting of chamber music, the performance will include the fresh and intricate Three Pieces for cello and piano by Nadia Boulanger, the lyrical Lied for cello by Vincent d’Indy, Jolivet’s powerful Chant de Linos, and Francis Poulenc’s Sonata for Violin and Piano.

This French program will be peppered with minimalist works such as John Adams’ ‘China Gates’ for solo piano, which will encourage an evening of contemplation on time and space in music. Featuring Egle Jarkova, violin; Orlando Cela, flute; Yumi Bae, cello and Artistic Director Christina Wright-Ivanova, piano, the program will also include works by Olivier Messiaen and Gabriel Faure.

A reception catered by Manda & Me will begin at 6:00 p.m., during which concert guests will have the opportunity to explore the gallery while enjoying French inspired h‘dourves and wine.

The concert program will begin at 7:00 p.m., with a chance to meet the artists following the performance.
