Crime Down But Summer Brings Aggravated Assaults, Larcenies

Boston Police District A-1 provided an update on recent neighborhood crime incidents, summarized below, at the July 2016 North End Public Safety Meeting. The figures below cover the last 30 days period.

Part 1 Crime:

City-wide: Down 4%

District A-1: Down 5%

Aggravated Assaults (3)

6/18/16: 40-year-old suspect attempted to attack victim with a pair of scissors.  Suspect is known to the police.  Suspect was arrested on 7/6/16 by Central Wharf.

6/26/16: Suspect allegedly threatened 2 groups of people on Cooper Street. (near Salem Street.) at 3.00am.  Suspect was wearing body armor and yielding 2 butcher knives (allegedly in self-defense).  Police arrived on the scene and after ordering him to drop the weapons, the suspect was arrested.

7/5/16: Domestic violence at 149 North Street.  Fighting spilled out onto the street.  Victim’s head being pushed into the sidewalk led to an arrest.

Larcenies (8)

376 Commercial Street.: Clothes taken from a garage.

342 Hanover Street.: Stolen bike.

97 Salem Street. (Boston Common Coffee Shop): Wallet was taken from victim’s purse when she went to the bathroom.

256 Hanover Street. (North End Yoga): Bracelet taken from locker.

62 North Margin Street.: 2 handcarts taken from rear of delivery vehicle.

Bartlett Place: Stolen bike.

11 Thatcher Street. (Pizzeria Regina): Cell phone was taken ripped away from the victim’s hand.  Suspect fled in from the scene in a car.

97 Salem Street. (Boston Common Coffee Shop): Backpack was stolen.

Sergeant. John Doris attended the meeting.  He has been with the BPD for 31 years (patrol) and has specifically worked in District A-1 since November 2014.

North End Family Pride Day: Sunday, July 31, from 10am – 4pm.

National Night Out: Tuesday, August 2, from 6 – 9pm, on The Prado.

Sergeant. Yee from Suffolk University said although most of student move-ins will take place the last weekend of August, some of it may be sporadic / staggered.  Off-Campus Housing Department is coordinating and disseminating information.

Next Meeting: Thursday, August 4 at 6.00pm in Nazzaro Center.
