Boston selected to participate in Focus Cities Program

Boston has been chosen as one of ten cities selected by the National Vision Zero Network to participate in their new Focus Cities Program.

Based on the effort that the city has put into working toward the goals of Vision Zero and the progress that has been made toward maximizing the safety of Boston’s streets the network selected the city to participate.

The Mayor and his Administration have made a huge effort encouraging people who walk, drive and cycle to pay attention to the rules of the road and be aware of others who are also traveling on city streets.

Mayor’s Task Force recommendations could hinder North End

Recommendations by Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh’s Late Night Task Force to expand businesses with 10pm-11pm hours to twelve midnight, expand liquor license hours within designated areas with proper hearings and the community process with legislative action required could start a frenzy in the North End as most local businesses will want part of the action.

So will the idea of serving drinks on a patio or deck without the requirements to serve food and playing music and live entertainment on decks and patios as well and be able to extend late into the evening. Local businesses will jump all over these ideas.

While the recommendations are clearly an attempt to raise city revenues, however, the North End will clearly not benefit from these ideas if they are adopted.

At this time, neither the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) or the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) have these recommendations scheduled for discussion on their March agendas.

TD Bank assists RUFF

The quest to have a full scale North End dog park was supported by TD Bank that held a Bring Change fundraiser.

TD Bank should be commended for their efforts to help raise funds for this special neighborhood endeavor that will result in a full scale dog park with all the amenities and will result in a wonderful, much-needed dog park for community use.

Helping out the community with events and fundraisers is labeled as being a “Good Neighbor”. TD Bank is one of those Good Neighbors.

Successful school fundraiser held

St. John School’s recent fundraiser to benefit the school’s education fund was a success in part to the generous donations from Mamma Maria Restaurant and V. Cirace + Son Liquor, Inc.

A five-course meal was served with wine pairings at the North Square Restaurant.
