Highway Workers Seek Early Retirement

Ten percent of MassDOT’s workforce, including hundreds in the division charged with clearing snow clogged highways and maintain the state’s crumbling roads, have applied for the early retirement program recently introduced by Governor Charlie Baker.

Apparently 430 transportation employees applied for the June 30 deadline, the most of any department statewide.

MassDOT indicated that the depleted staff will force them to be more viable and presented them the opportunity to find process improvements and efficiencies in the service they provide.

The Governor is on the right track by getting rid of the old, saving taxpayer’s money and hiring new blood.
