An important position has been filled at the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy, that will hopefully advance initiatives like the Greenway Wall at Dewey Square, ensure rotating programs of high quality art along the mile and a half park and become integral to the 2015 installation and programming around a city scaled aerial sculpture by local world renowned artist Janet Echelman.
Public Art Curator and Program Manager Lucas Cowan, has been hired to accomplish these and other goals, he will work with the Greenway Curatorial Committee, neighbors, art organizations and City and State officials.
It appears that Cowan’s experience and background will help make the Greenway a must destination for contemporary public art.
As Director of Public Arts programs at the Maryland State Arts Council, he administered public art projects and spearheaded the passage of legislation requiring all-state funded capital projects to include public art funding and their construction.
Cowan plans to put together meaningful public and private partnerships and create challenging thought-provoking experiences for everyone who visits the Greenway, contribute to the community life and the liveliness of Boston’s newest public park.
It certainly appears that the Conservancy’s hiring practices will move the Greenway in positive directions for everyone to enjoy.
