Allowing retired Boston Police Offices to become Special Police Officers and work private business details throughout the city will handle some of the unfilled details that occur. City officials advise that requests from private vendors, construction, utility companies and entertainment venues have increased and apparently the police department does not have enough manpower to fill the requests.
The idea will place more police on the streets, increasing public safety and at the same time bring in some revenue to a city that can certainly use additional funds. Retired, well-trained Boston Police officers, doing private requested details that are unfilled, has merit and should make its way through the legislative process as soon as possible. This should be a given.
