Boston Is Entitled to Casino Funds

Excluding Boston status as a surrounding community with the $1.6 billion Winn Casino project in Everett by the state Gaming Commission has Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh fuming, and rightly so.

The Mayor called the move “a sham” and a snub of all the city taxpayers. We agree.

As Walsh stated, “It just shows the disregard of the Gaming Commission and how they favor this industry and not toward the residents of the City of Boston.”

The Commission is paid by taxpayers including those from Boston.

The city has a lucrative mitigation deal with Mohegan Sun for a proposed $1.3 billion Revere Casino and should be able to strike a similar deal with the Everett Casino developers before the Board expects to make a decision on September 12 weather it will be Mohegan Sun or Winn Resorts.

Either way, Boston is entitled to a piece of the action.
