Licensing Board Transfer on Hold

A Home Rule Petition filed by Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley to have the State Legislature transfer the Licensing Board to City control was continued to further tweak the bill and take into consideration comments and suggestions from the public.

The change would remove the existing cap on the number of alcohol licenses in Boston and allow the reformed Licensing Board to determine the number of licenses, creating procedures for making licenses non-transferable over time and placing certain restrictions on the transfer/sale alcohol licenses from one corporation to another.

Besides Council approval, the Mayor’s signature is required and the legislature will have to approve it for it to be enacted.
