Board of Appeal Approves Salem Street Addition

A proposal to build an additional story to 78-80 Salem Street to expand the first floor restaurant, Trattoria Pulcinella to the second floor was approved by the City of Boston Board of Appeal by a unanimous vote according to the owner’s Attorney William Ferullo.

While owner Chris Young made all the necessary changes to his plans, based on community suggestions made at neighborhood meetings, both the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association and Neighborhood Council voted to oppose the change, claiming there was enough second floor restaurants (15) in the North End.

Some residents attended the public hearing at City Hall and spoke against the second story addition but the Board of Appeal felt there was no reason to deny Young’s proposal.

Young is a North End resident, landlord and businessman.
