Council Elects Officers/Votes on Several Requests

The first order of business at the last North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council monthly meeting was to announce the election of officers.

Elected were: President Stephen Passacantilli, Vice President Jonathan Sproul and Secretary Bill Lane.

Passacantilli reported that Councilor Sal LaMattina is filing a nuisance ordinance that will allow the City to fine tenants for loud parties $100 for the first violation and advise the landlord of the fine. The second time around, both the tenant and landlord will be fined. State Law prohibits fines from being over $300.

An application by the Improv Asylum, 216 Hanover Street to add cordials to its Malt and Wine License was supported by the Council 10-0.

Council members called the Asylum “Good Neighbors” that support North End Against Drugs and North End Music and Performing Arts Center events free of charge. There was no abutter opposition. The business is open 7-days a week closing at 1am on weekdays and 2am on weekends. Capacity is 260 with a theatre seating area of 200.

David Crocini’s request for zoning relief to change the legal occupancy at 133 Salem Street from four residential units and a retail store to three residential units and a fitness center “Crossfit”. The renovations include conversion of the basement. There was no abutter opposition. The fitness center will operate from 6am to 8:30pm on weekdays with limited hours on weekends of 8am to 12am. The Center is for members only. The Council vote was 10-0.

A request for a Wine and Malt License by Jennifer Pittore for a new restaurant “Locale” 350-352 Hanover Street was supported by the Council 10-0. Locale is a gourmet pizza business with take-out will be open 7-days a week from 11am to 11pm on weekdays and 11am to 12am on weekends. Pizza will not be sold by the slice. Seating capacity of 18 with 8 tables. Council vote was 10-0. There was no abutter opposition.

John and Frank Mendoza’s request to add cordials to Monica’s Mercato Inc, 67 Salem Street and to change their operating hours to 11pm closing Monday through Thursday and 12 midnight on Friday, Saturday and Sunday were both supported by the Council by a 9-0 vote. There was no abutter opposition.

The next NEWNC monthly meeting will be held on Monday, July 9 at 7pm in the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 North Bennet Street.
