Commercial Trash Pick-up Times Discussed

While discussions centered around a Home Rule Petition that would regulate commercial trash collection times throughout the City of Boston, no official suggestions were determined at a recent Boston City Council hearing.

The Home Rule Petition was filed by Councilors Felix Arroyo and Mike Ross based on numerous complaints by residents, including North End/Waterfront residents, claiming the late night trash pick-ups were continuously affecting their sleep. Commercial trash is picked up every day in the middle of the night.

The commercial trash pick-up situation has been mentioned at several community meetings, with residents calling for their elected officials to consider making a possible time change.

Many Boston residents attended the public hearing at City Hall including Anne Pistorio, a member of the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association.

A North End resident testified at the hearing about the excessive noise level of multiple trucks disturbing residents throughout the night at 2, 3 or 4 o’clock in the morning.

Pistorio is only one of many North End/Waterfront residents that feel some sort of time change in commercial trash pick-up is warranted.
