The Annual Mary U. Nichols Book Prizes were presented at the North End Library to three St. John School eight graders.

Established in 1949 honoring Mary U. Nichols, a beloved and long remembered North End librarian, the prizes are presented each year to North End students.

This year’s recipients were Francesca Mantone, Christian Navarro and Mikayla Romano. They were selected to receive the book prizes because of their outstanding achievements in English.

In the fall, Mantone will attend Pope John High School, Navarro will attend Boston College High School and Romano will attend Bishop Fenwick High School.

Sarah Markell, Assistant Neighborhood Service Manager of the BPL presented the book prizes. Alex Goldfeld, Boston Historian and President of the North End Historical Society was the keynote speaker.

A small reception with punch and cookies was also held.
