NEAA Baseball Team evens record at 5-5

Winning two weekend games 7-1 and 10-5, the North End Athletic Association Little League team (9-10 year olds) evened their record to 5-5 in the Medford Fall Ball League.

In the first game (Saturday) the North End team broke out on top in the first inning with two outs, JC Pezzuto singled reached second on an error and scored on a RBI double by Nate Wolf.

The hometown team made it 3-0 in the third on a 2 out 2 run double by Pezzuto.

Medford cut the lead to 3-1 in the fourth but Pezzuto once again had a 2out hit, an inside the park three run homer. Andrew Olivo singled in the NEAA’s final run for a 7-1 victory.

Pezzuto hurled four innings allowing 1 hit and 1 run while striking out 8 batters. Wolf finished the game off striking out 5 batters.

The North End team went on to win its Sunday game 10-5 evening off their season record at 5-5.

Great base running in the first and second innings gave the NEAA team a 4-0 lead.

Both Thomas Marchi and Tim Martin scored 2 runs each on some daring base running.

Medford took a 5-4 lead in the fourth with the help of a bad defensive play, the only miscue of the weekend.

A sacrifice fly by Marchi scored DJ DiCenso to tie the score 5-5.

Pezzuto singled home Martin with the go ahead and winning run.

The NEAA team scored two more runs in the inning on an inside park homer by Marchi and a run scoring single by Pezzuto for a final score of 10-5.

Willaim Marchi and DJ DiCenso pitched 2 strong innings each with Martin picking up the win hurling 2 scoreless innings.

"The weekend featured timely hitting, excellent base running and outstanding defense," Coach John Pezzuto said. "The team stole ten bases, committed only 2 errors, pitched well and got timely hits," he added.

"William Marchi, DJ DiCenso and Andrew Alibali played terrific defense, pitched extremely well and ran the bases like old pros," the Coach said.
